Microgeographies is a work in progress on the transformations of specific socio-geographic environments. In particular it refers to the area of Faliron bay after the massive changes that followed the Olympic Games 2004. It focuses on the action of local communities, as well as on some small-scale, minimal actions by social and artistic groups which assert a more poetic and political aspect of everyday life and function as a way of personalising resistance to the globalscape, to the further spread of areas abandoned to misuse, to the dominance of property speculation and the strategies of “refinement”: a small gesture, a trace, an in situ discussion or quick chat, the repetition of an everyday action (referring to work or a walk).

This closer –“inner”– look through artistic, architectural and social practices contains a wish: to experience rather than to consume, to unite rather than to divide, to simplify rather than to analyze. What we feel is what we get every time from an environment.

The work of the participating artists and architects forms the body of this question. The answer will be given by us all, in situ, and it is what we will experience. What, in our turn, we will reciprocate towards the environment, in a psychodynamic relationship with it.

Microgeographies are presented concurrently at Faliro Pavilion (TaeKwonDo) and at the SEANATK, whereas actions and discussions will take place during ART-ATHINA.

The theme of “Intermediate Times” is waiting times in public spaces around the city, i.e., times during which we have to stand still in public places.
The project does not refer to waiting times that involve personal expectations, but rather to the needs of the inhabitants of a city on a massive scale: the time spent waiting at bus stops, metro stations, supermarkets, public services, etc.
“Intermediate Times” consists of an archive of photographs, drawings and videos of dialogue transcripts, all of which is the result of three years of field work in these particular environments.
The goal is to convey the act of waiting itself, during which nothing is produced, no noteworthy events take place, and nothing is registered in our perception apart from the restrictions and directions that define the conditions of the particular spaces.
